Internships and Volunteer Positions

LHI depends heavily on the dedicated work of interns and volunteers.  If you are interested in gaining experience in the nonprofit sector, absorbing the amazing indigenous culture of Chajul, and having a very direct impact on a dynamic young organization, volunteer or intern with us! 

We are especially in need of interns/volunteers with one or more of the following skills or areas of expertise:

• Technical computer skills
• Salesforce database skills
• Grant writing/fundraising
• Marketing and communications, including: Internet marketing (especially using GoogleAd Words) and Website design
• Teaching youth
• Library management or program/curriculum development

LHI is happy to provide letters of recommendation or certify school credit for internships and volunteer hours.

Volunteer/Intern in Chajul

LHI welcomes volunteers who are highly proficient in Spanish and can commit to a minimum of 1 month of volunteering.

We ask that volunteers contribute $180 as a volunteer coordination fee. This tax-deductible fee includes: support from LHI staff pre-departure and on the ground in Guatemala; an information packet on LHI, Chajul, and Nebaj; general advice on life in the Ixil region and housing and eating options; and orientation to LHI, Chajul, and your particular volunteer project.

Volunteer/Intern from Home

LHI also welcomes interns and volunteers to work on projects from abroad. No coordination fee will be charged.

If you have ideas about how you could support LHI or skills other than those listed above, please be sure to include that information in your email.

Pro-bono professional services

LHI seeks pro-bono professional services on an ongoing basis.  We are in particular need of professionals with skills and experience in the following areas:

• Accounting/auditing
• Insurance
• Website design
• Internet marketing
